:) I had three children a year a part, and my mother said to me when they were all very young that the way they acted during meal times made her think that I left them in a room and threw food at them. I laughed, it's a funny thought, but no, toddlers are just crazy when it comes to food. :)

This is hysterical. My oldest 2 kids are in grade school so we aren't going through this right now, but I remember. I also have a newborn so I guess we're in for it all over again! You should definitely get in touch with a publisher. I'd buy the book and then get a copy for all my friends with kids because it seems like it would be the perfect gift. hahaha

That's funny -- I often use the words "fine - you have to eat the ones off the floor first". Wait, does that make me a bad Mom?

So true! My two year old son will eat anything off the floor. Just this week he refused to even try either ice cream or peaches (both foods he happily ate last summer) but he enthusiastically ate both a crayon and entire mouthfuls of sand (we were at the beach).

Your "crappy" illustrations are such a delight and laugh riot finally a mom brave enough to share the events of the day that we all seem to share yet never tell it.. my children i used to give them crackers and theyed throw it on the floor after a while and a ton of wasted food and non eating i started leaving it dont you know not 5 seconds later they run to it like its a great discovery, dinner time is a tantrum in itself even if it was a plate of candy. i have done that very thing in the photo just throw the crackers on the floor so i just loled. i think at there youngest years its a time of self assertiveness doing things on there own and deciding for themselves , i have 5 boys oldest is 13 youngest is 8 months (oh the joy XD) thankyou so much for sharing your pictures have brought many laughs and something to relate too not only to me but my husband as well.

getting our eldest to eat was a fun game: put food in bowl, put bowl on floor (we tried putting it on a table, the results were the same), watch child tip contents of bowl onto floor, child walks away. 3 minutes later child returns and eats newly discovered floor food... asks for more; repeat.

Scenario 3 is that you find some sucker that has set up a kids art class and the kids get to do all the arty stuff you had envisaged, make an almighty mess, and then you leave all that mess for someone else to clean with a clear conscience because you paid $5 for entry. Yeah! Except that I got to really like the lady that ran the art classes we went to and I ended up helping both set up and clean up. That's ok though, it got me out of the house and I've made a nice friend out of it.

If I lay the crackers on a table or highchair my son will throw it all on the floor...then eat it off the floor...like a dog on his hands and knees even though we don't have one, and then my 3yo will say "momma! can I do that too!?" And that's on the days he'll actually eat food. He'd much rather empty his plate and chew on it, eat dirt or chew on our guests shoes. (once again I have no clue where he gets his puppy tendencies)
